Interview about GDAD

Thursday’s morning I went to GDAD final show and it is a good experience for me. I found an interesting work which gives me a deep impression. The designer’s name is Xin ZHOU. She is a Fashion Promotion and Imaging student. The project is called PATTERSPOKEN. The name comes from the English words pattern and speaking. The reason why the work attracts me more is its inspiration. The author asked herself a question ‘what make the customers decide to buy your products?’ and then she realized maybe it was a good way to build up a fashion brand and give opportunity to customers to engage in the design process. They could come and tell us their own stories and memories.

In my opinion, we cannot isolate the consumer from our design process particularly in product design which is my major. It is important for us to focus on resonance with customers and user experience. I think only when we put emphasis on it can we design a perfect project. At last, there are also many excellent sketchbooks in the show which inspire me how to use and record my ideas in my future study.

BIG EYES

The story "Big eyes" is according to a true story. It tells us an artist and a liar from profound feelings to fight each other.

After viewing the film, I had three questions: whether the heroine is a real artist or her work could be look as an artwork, whether the heroine truly suffered wrong and whether the hero is actually unforgivable.

When we saw the film, it is easy to be able to draw our sympathy for the heroine, conversely, no actor performs unique marketing, and the heroine of paintings will never be recognized by people. There inevitably will be mixed after a successful component of selfish human nature, people desire to succeed, no matter what methods and means, as long as the compromise or yield success, everything can be discussed. Here, I cannot help but have to say, in all this behind, people still are so-called interest and reputation surrounded before without success, the interests of the alliance can be closely connected together and to the success in the future. In my opinion, few people want to share their wealth and honor with partner. So which one is right in the end, cannot be used to determine by compassion.

Chase Jarvis

Chase Jarvis is a celebrated photographer and director, also a keynote speaker. He had make speeches at conferences including TED, PDN Photo plus Expo, etc. And I am amazing about his photography works when I see the video. He tries to change people’s thinking though his work and attitude towards art.

After viewing his speaking, his explanation for the sentence ‘Creativity is the new literacy.’ gives me a deep impression. Literacy is ability of read and write. Not only art needs creativity, but also science, mechanical and electronic. It is really a new idea for me. We need think ourselves are creativity and open the cage which was given by our parents or schools. In addition, he told all of us creativity can solve all problems. Maybe it is beneficial to us to change the current education system by creativity.

Project 3 The Face

This is my first project in the class, and I am glad to meet my group mates. Although there are many arguments and different opinions when we complete our project, we deal with these problems well. So I know that communication skill is very important in team work and we need consider each other. From this project I really learnt a lot.

Our project is The Face. We find more and more people putting emphasis on their appearance nowadays. Maybe it is not beneficial for contemporary society. So we did a lot of research about this topic to improve our viewpoint such as some interesting data about plastic surgery in South Korea and hot posts online. We want people know appearance is not the most significant things and we need pay attention on people’s abilities and characteristic.

The part of proposal I need to write is concept. We found three representative words to summarize what we did in project 3. They are cross-over, aesthetic and re-created. Cross-over means our group combines different vocations when we present our posters to express face not the most important things. Aesthetics means we hope people to find out our inner beauty when we hide our real appearance. Re-creative means we shoot our photo and use some tools like brushes, glasses, food to present our posters.

It is an excellent experience for me and I hope this experience will helpful in my next project.

AI WEIWEI

After viewing the movie, I found AI WEIWEI was really a crazy and controversial person in China or even in the world. It is hard for me to understand why he used so terrible word to express his work, like ‘F**k your motherland’ and encouraged people to join with him. I know because of the economy growing rapidly, there are a lot of problems coming out in contemporary China, like population, foods, corruptions and so on, but these words do not have any effect and just make me feel he is a rude person. Reflecting on his works, I think he put more emphasis on politics not art itself. He fought against the China government for the freedom of speech though his projects, such as Sichuan earthquake (name list). So it is difficult for me to define who he is, an artist or a revolutionist.

Besides that, he also has some good qualities that I can learn from him, like He is brave enough to express what he want and pay it into action at once. It is short in China to stand out.

It is a good chance for me to learn about him and listen different voice and different thought.
